The following case represents a failed root canal tooth that was replaced by a dental implant. The following x-ray shows the tooth with failed root canal which caused substantial bone damage around the root of the tooth. The area outlined by red line represents the bone loss caused by the infected tooth.

The tooth had to be extracted and the bone damage repaired by bone grafting. The following x-rays shows completed treatment and full repair of jaw bone. An implant was surgically placed into the bone after bone grafting was done. A porcelain tooth was attached to the implant to replace the lost tooth.
